Habs win in Detroit! The Octopus is defeated, the world is safe! People everywhere rejoice.
Great game last night. Or so it seems (I haven’t actually seen it). From what I read, and from the highlights I saw, habs played a great game in Detroit. They did not try to forecheck the red wings, instead, they waited for them at the blue line to slow them down, and battled fiercely for the puck along the boards. That pretty much sounds like a defensive trap, but hey, it worked. The red wings were just coming home after a 3 games trip to western Canada, so it was probably a good time to play them. But Detroit is nevertheless a power house in the league, and they had lost only two games in regulation so far. The Canadiens can be proud.
O’Byrne is once again featured in the game highlights, once again for the wrong reasons. Franzen undressed him to score a pretty goal in the third. That’s too bad, because he otherwise had a good game. Higgins and Pleks scored, Kovy got a point, and they even scored a superb goal on the PP, thanks to a great pass by Markov. Gorges had once again a good game. So overall, this really looks like the game everyone was waiting to see from the habs. And it confirms that the team is slowly coming back after a difficult november.
Next game is tomorrow in Washington, where Ovechkin is red hot. After a great defensive performance yesterday versus Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa and Cie, it’ll be interesting to see how the habs fare against Ovie.
